Zone map
Geographic zones
Calgary is divided into Geographic zones for purposes of the Competitive Clubs and City League
The divisions in Calgary are roughly : a) along the Bow River/Memorial Drive b) along Glenmore Trail c) South of Calgary City limits

South of Calgary, there is a large active Club in the High River / Okotoks area
There are emerging clubs also in Canmore and Airdrie.
You will find web pages for each of these Clubs within this section (Competitive Clubs) of the website.
Zone appeals (New for 2008 - 2009 season)
In general, it is important to respect the geographic boundaries of all clubs as they go through a growth stage. However, there are certain rare instances when it seems to make sense to have exceptions to the geographic zones.
In 2008 - 2009, Calgary Water Polo will be proactive in looking at zone appeals.
The reasons for moving a player out of their zone are typically:
1) The Regional Club was unsuccessful in registering enough members to form a team in a particular division. Therefore the athlete cannot be assured of a high quality training and league experience in that Club at the athlete's level of play.
2) Parent is also a coach, and the athlete cannot reasonably get to their practice because the parent is acting as a coach in a different quadrant (region) of the City
The procedure is change clubs for the season:
1) Club and CWPA reps will meet at the start of each league season, and review the rosters and numbers on each team per club, and if necessary, exhanges will be made for that 3 month season. (e.g. Fall League or Winter League, etc.) After that temporary transfer, the athlete returns to their home team and can be re-evaluated for transfer at the beginning of the following season again if required.
2) Parents may also appeal any decision during the year.
3) Once a transfer has been granted, the athletes fees and fund-raising commitments will transfer to the new club. If an athlete plays in muliple levels (Atom - Youth), but for different clubs (e.g. Bantam for Sea Wolves, but Cadet for Mako), then the fees and commitments will be prorated. There is no proration for Senior team play, as Regional Clubs do not participate in that division.
